Recently, we discovered there are a number of Thai restaurants along Victoria Avenue. While waiting for our son to finish his math lesson, we decided to take a stroll to the award winning Thai restaurant called Thai Naan. Thai Naan was given the Thai Select Label by the Royal Thai Government for achieving a “high standard of excellence. The Thai Select Recognition was given by the Thai Prime Minister, Ying Luck Shinawatra during her visit to Sydney.
On that particular day, we were lucky as the restaurant was not crowded. The waitress was friendly and took our orders cheerfully. We ordered the Seafood Tom Yum, the BBQ beef (which we requested it to be well done) and the lamb shank curry with potato served with a few pieces of roti.

Seafood Tom Yum |

The seafood Tom Yum was pretty good. It has the right combination of flavours -ie: spicy, sweet with a tinge of sour. The seafood was fresh and the regular helping which we ordered was sufficient for both of us.

BBQ Beef with spicy sauce |

As for the BBQ beef, the meat was a bit tough. Could this due to the fact that the meat was cooked “well done”? Hmmm....perhaps, but the meat was quite dry and not chewy. It also doesn’t have any flavour to it even though it was stated in the menu that the “tender marinated steak finely sliced then cooked on the BBQ with spicy sauce”. As for the “spicy sauce”, I found it to be rather bland as well. I think the BBQ beef would have tasted better if it has the right sauce to go with it. Perhaps some kind of sweet and sour sauce with some chilly thrown into it.

Roti to dip into the curry |
The curry lamb shank with potato served with roti was excellent! The meat was juicy, tender and literally dropped from the bone. The potato was soft - the meat and potato literally melt in your mouth. The curry was rich and full of flavour. Though, the colour looked hot and spicy but in actual fact it was not. The helping was big and I think you can have a full meal for two people by just ordering this dish with plain rice. Though, they gave us roti for us to dip into the curry but we would prefer to eat this dish with white rice as the rice will bring out the real flavour in this dish. We enjoyed this dish very much
In conclusion and based on our experience, we would rate Thai Naan 7/10 for its food, 9/10 for its service and 10/10 for its ambient. As for the price, it is average as what you would expect in a fine dining restaurant.
